What to expect when staying at a Bed and Breakfast
In Australia most bed and breakfast accommodation falls into two main catagories: homestay/farmstay accommodation or self contained accommodation.
In homestay or farmstay accommodation guests usually stay under the same roof as the owner of the property, whilst self contained B&B's usually consist of a seperate building on the property, or a complete stand-alone home.
Regardless of the accommodation style your stay in a bed and breakfast should always include fresh linen and (of course) breakfast. Breakfast can be provided either as provisions for you to prepare at your leisure - this is more common with self -contained accommodation, or breakfast may be served by the hosts. In larger bed and breakfast establishments you may eat breakfast with other guests or with the hosts themselves.
What bed and breakfasts offer as opposed to large-scale accommodation providers is a personalised approach into a region and its culture. The hosts should be able to advise on places of interest, where to eat, upcoming events and things to do without the time pressure of having to attend to a large number of customers.
